Light Runes
What I Think
The two men nod distractedly at a question neither of them seems to have asked. Gazes fixed upon a grassy area with no particular claim on their attention, they continue to sit in silence while group after group - families, clusters of teenagers, hand-holding lovers, solitary walkers with smiles as they gaze around - wander past, some offering a greeting which is barely answered. The pair look utterly drained, as though the short walk from the parking lot has enervated them to the point that they can barely stay awake.
“I think,” one ventures. The other turns his head to meet his friend’s gaze. “What I think is that we’ve stayed too long.”
“Mmm,” the other agrees with a nod. Neither of them makes a move to leave, even as the sun begins to dip towards the horizon.
